Francesinha of the Month: the first edition is almost over

Francesinha of the Month is now under way, and the very first edition is almost over. By the end of June we'll know the first spot to be honoured — and you can follow the standings day by day as the numbers update.
But what exactly is this award?
BestFrancesinha's main ranking is deliberately stable. It rewards consistency over time, which means it tends to be dominated by well-established spots with thousands of reviews behind them. That's fair, but it always tells the same story. Francesinha of the Month exists to tell the other one: the spots that are rising right now.
Instead of looking at the total number of reviews, the award measures relative growth within the month — how much a spot has grown compared to where it started at the beginning of the period. A place with few reviews that gains traction fast can stand out here, even if it's nowhere near the top of the overall ranking. It's an award for momentum, not size.
To make it meaningful, the rules are clear. There's a single national winner each month — the fastest-rising spot in the whole country. Places already in the national Top 10 are excluded: this award is about revealing who's arriving, not confirming who's already there. There's also a quality requirement — a spot is only eligible if its average rating hasn't dropped over the month, so we never reward growth at the expense of the experience. And a winner can't repeat for the following 12 months, giving the stage to different spots each edition.
The comparison window is fixed at the start of each month and never recalculates: the starting point freezes, and everything is measured against it until the close.
This first edition is special because it's partial: the engine went live mid-June, with the reference point frozen on 15 June 2026. The window is therefore about two weeks long, and the final standings close with the last update of the month, on 29 June. From July onward, the award runs over full months.
